Country and Town House things to do in London this weekend

With details of things to do in London this weekend, here is the Country and Town House newsletter:

5 Things to Do This Weekend

In this week's special London edition, we bring you the best of the capital's culture, food and drink. It's a jam-packed weekend, with Frieze, the African Art Fair, Cocktail Week celebrations and some exciting new exhibitions too. An especially exciting event is the one-off 'Phantom of the Opera' screening with live orchestra this Sunday – and there are still some tickets available! Top off the weekend's events with a special meal atop London's tallest buildings and take in the beauty of the city...
Contemporary African Art Fair
For a colourful alternative to Frieze, head to Somerset House this weekend to see the fifth edition of the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair. Showcasing 42 galleries and over 150 contemporary artists from Africa and the African diaspora, the Fair will show artists working across a range of mediums, from painting to photography and fun installations, as well as newbies such as Cameroonian photographer Samuel Fosso and Somali-Swedish mixed-media artist Ayan Farah.

Make sure you pop down from 5 – 8 October, and be sure to check out the wonderful new Hassan Hajjaj exhibit, ‘La Caravane’ which blends the glossy aesthetic of fashion with Moroccan tradition and street culture. Book tickets here.

Heading to Frieze? Read the fair's Creative Director's personal highlights here.
Sky High Dining
Bokan, Novotel Canary Wharf
Atop the surprisingly cool Novotel Canary Wharf is a hidden treasure. Bokan is a great spot for a date night, and its cuisine takes inspiration from its historic trading location. Head to the roof terrace afterwards for a glamorous nightcap.
Hutong at The Shard
Make your weekend extra special by booking into Hutong at The Shard for supper. The views over the city are unparalleled, as is the high-end Chinese food Рthe ros̩ champagne shrimp dumplings are to die for.
London Cocktail Week
One of our favourite weeks of the year is back! Until the 8th October, you can indulge in a range of suppers, parties, masterclasses and special offers to celebrate this year's London Cocktail Week, the biggest festival of its kind in the world. Make sure you head over to the Cocktail Village in Old Spitalfields Market and sample the best there is to offer from the cocktail world, and tequila lovers shouldn't miss the Tequila & Mezcal Fest taking place on Saturday and Sunday for a real Mexican fiesta. 3 – 8 October

Brand New Photography Exhibitions
Tyler Shields at COYA Mayfair
Head to COYA in Mayfair to view Tyler Shields' 'Provocateur' collection. The renowned American photographer will display some of his best-known pieces as well as a new body of work, seen here for the first time. Until 27 November
Ben Buchanan at Peter Harrington
Peter Harrington's gallery in Mayfair hosts Ben Buchanan and his never-before-seen photographs from 1983-1987 of AREA Nightclub in Downtown New York, with snaps of Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, Hockney and Basquiat. Until 31 October
Roy Budd's Phantom of the Opera Premiere
The silent film Phantom of The Opera from 1925 by Julian Richard is being screened for one night only at the London Coliseum this Sunday 8 October.

The film will be accompanied by the live, 77-piece Dockland’s Sinfonia Orchestra conducted by Spencer Down who will be playing Roy Budd’s lost score in this world premiere. Budd’s name was synonymous with great musical scores and this is undoubtedly his greatest work, so don’t miss the chance to listen to something very close to magic. Tickets still available here.
