Updates from Creative Future October 2017     CFLA Showcase This year's competition received more than 650 entries--over three times that of 2016, with entries from Cornwall, to Northern Scotland, Great Yarmouth to Northern Ireland. Thanks to all who entered--we enjoyed reading your work. The winners will be announced at the Winners' Showcase at the Studio Theatre of Birmingham Library, as part of Birmingham Literature Festival on 11 October 2017. This is a FREE event open to the public from 7pm--we'd love to see you there!   Reserve your free ticket here     Meet The Artist: Maria Amidu Tuesday 24th October, 2-3pm at Community Base, Brighton This series showcases under-represented writers and artists and how they got their work ‘out there’. They aim to inform and inspire and give you the opportunity to meet practicing professional artists and writers. Maria is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, and exhibited nationally and internationally before pursuing a social practice. She has developed projects with a number of museums, galleries and organisations and has won a wide range of fellowships, grants and awards. Reserve your free ticket here     Stewpot Rescues Stewpot Rescues and Other Close Shaves is now available, written by Ireti Coker and produced through Creative Future’s mentoring scheme. The stories in Stewpot Rescues fizz with sensual local detail; the sights, sounds and smells of Lagos and the Nigerian countryside are writ large, transporting the reader fully into busy markets, the Cokers’ plentiful garden, and the Nigerian bush. Help Stamp Out Stigma & Increase Arts Diversity The Tight Modern is the world’s smallest pop-up art gallery—an 8’ x 5’ replica of the iconic Tate Modern. A tiny art gallery with a big impact, it’s showcased hundreds of the UK’s best under-represented artists through national competitions and tours. It enables talented, unrecognised artists who face extreme barriers due to mental health, disability, identity, health or social circumstance to get their artwork seen by up to 134,000 people, and even on the BBC!     Support the Tight Modern Winners' Tour   We Need Your Help! We’re close to being able to put on the tour, but we still need to raise £1,500 to put on the exhibition, judging, prizes, preview and award events. Our artists need help and support to get their work out there—in addition to the personal barriers they face as people with mental health, health/disability and other issues, the mainstream arts world often sees them as ‘people with problems,’ not as people with potential and artists in their own right. Can you help us make the Winners' Tour a success?
