Go Wilde @ Seven
A real treat next
week for theatre lovers, Wilde Without The Boy,
an award-winning solo play that wowed Edinburgh Fringe audiences in
2016.
Much to enjoy before that, starting tonight, Thursday 5 October, 8pm, JazzLeeds
presents Craig Handy Quartet. Leading US saxophonist
Craig Handy comes to Leeds with a top class European trio. Handy has
contributed his lyrical and intensely passionate improvisations to
ensembles led by Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard,
among many others. £16

On Saturday 7
October 8.30pm, is TumbleweedAmericana
with Slaid Cleaves. Cleaves spins stories with a novelist’s
eye and a poet’s heart. Twenty years into his career, the celebrated
songwriter’s ‘Still Fighting the War’ spotlights an artist in peak
form. Cleaves’ seamless new collection delivers vivid snapshots as
cinematic as they are carefully chiselled. Just a few tickets

On Sunday 9 October,
1.30-4pm, it's JazzLeeds – Dan Whieldon
Quartet. Manchester pianist, Dan Whieldon, leads a new band
performing his music, contemporary European in style, rich in harmony,
refined and elegant, their melodies eloquently voiced by the lyrical
flugelhorn of Richard Iles. £10/8

In the evening of
Sunday 9 October, 7pm, a special guitar /oboe concert, the Bisengaliev-Paradiso Duo.
The Duo formed in 2012 and have performed throughout Italy and
Leeds.The programme will include compositions by Vito Nicola Paradiso
for guitar and oboe.

The Screen Seven movie on
Monday 9 October, 8pm is Captain Fantastic.
In the forests of the Pacific Northwest, a father is devoted to raising
his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education. When
his wife, Leslie, dies suddenly, Ben is forced to leave his
paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to
be a parent. £6 on
the door.
On Tuesday 10
October, 7pm, Café Cinematique
is screening Mustang. The film showing will be followed by a
discussion around this Oscar nominated film about the passions and
trials of life for young girls growing up in Northern Turkey. £8 on the door.

Seven Live
returns on Wednesday
11 October, 8pm with –It’s Always A Bit Different In
October This month, Hull’s premier pop band, The Gherkins; a plethora
of tidy tips and tricks from, Skills For Life; harmonising acoustic
duo, Siren and Strings, and guest MC for the night, Choir of Loretta. £6 otd.
A superb offering from JazzLeeds on
Thursday 12 October, 8pm, “A Fish Tale” Alan Barnes Septet and poet Josie
Gray. A powerful and exciting evening of jazz that will
capture the spirit of the East Coast fishing community whilst providing
an evocative musical memorial, interspersed by Josie Moon narrating a
set of her amusing, risqué and troubling poems. £18 / £16 conc. Doors 7:45

On Friday 13
October, 7.30pm, it's Wilde Without The Boy and
‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’ , award-winning solo play
created for the actor Gerard Logan. Dramatised by Gareth Armstrong from
Oscar Wilde’s iconic love letter, De Profundis, it is a bitter but
beautiful aria addressed to the writer’s faithless lover, Lord Alfred
Douglas (Bosie). £12

Round off the week
on Saturday 14 October, 7.30pm with wild dancing, at Soul Seven – Retro Funk
Disco. Classic tracks from Motown to stax – the perfect
alternative to city centre clubbing. Dance your socks off to Funk, Soul
