5 Things to Do This Weekend

It's officially time to get festive, with only a few weeks left until Christmas. This week, we bring you all of the best ways to get in the mood – from wreath making and ballet, to classic afternoon tea at The Ritz.

If you're looking for something a little different, book in to hear the likes of Tom Hollander and Emeli Sandé read their favourite festive stories at The Print Room, or get your glad rags on for an extravagant surrealist ball at the Royal Academy.

The Nutcracker in London & Southampton

Magically musical, a score by Tchaikovsky and romantically danced: English National Ballet performers and punters all love The Nutcracker.

It’s Christmas Eve and Clara and her Nutcracker doll fly from icy Edwardian London to an alternate universe where she fights the Mouse King and soars above the city in a hot air balloon. Book it early29 Nov to 6 Jan

Festive Favourites

Pop-Up Screens at Hackney Showroom
Enter the newly-created winter wonderland at Hackney Showroom, where they will be showing all your favourite festive flicks, including Home Alone, Elf and Love Actually.

Wreath Making in Dorset
The first of Summer Lodge's wreath-making classes will be held this Saturday in Evershot, Devon. For only £45 a person, you'll get to enjoy mince pies and mulled wine a-plenty – and take your creation home.

Rrose Sélavy's Dada Extravaganza

If you're looking for slightly more alternative celebrations, head to the Royal Academy this Saturday for a Duchamp and Dali-inspired extravaganza.

Hosted by Rrose Sélavy, Duchamp’s female alter-ego, expect an evening of surrealism and Dada, with an extravagant ball, surrealist games, performances and installations which will accompany a specially-created menu.

An evening to remember… 7 – 11.45pm at the Royal Academy of Arts, tickets £35 (VIP £75) and can be purchased here

Foodie Festivities

Afternoon Tea at The Ritz
A most English of traditions is heading over to The Ritz for their Christmas afternoon tea in the beautifully decorated Palm Court, complete with carol singers and a Ritz teddy bear for little ones.

Night Sky at Skylon
Gaze at London's skyline and admire the constellations using Skylon's in-house telescope, while sipping specially-created cocktails beneath the light installations. Order 'The Solar System' and you'll even get to name your own star in the sky.

Winter's Tales at The Print Room

In Winter’s Tales, names including Tom Hollander, Emeli Sandé and Mel Giedroyc will read their favourite festive stories in the Print Room at the Coronet in Elephant and Castle.

This weekend, Penelope Wilton reads Winnie The Pooh, Ben Okri performs something new, and Toby Stephens reads Roald Dahl classic The Twits. Book tickets here.

It’s all for a good cause, namely the Give a Book charity and the K&C Foundation, which supports victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. Until 10 Dec
