Our budget information event on Thursday 25th January is a chance for residents to hear the latest information about your council's budget. You will be able to put your questions directly to local party leaders and deputy leaders, whilst this year’s budget debate is still live.

Lisa LuxxA creative writing workshop with performance poet Lisa Luxx, based on meeting the ancient goddesses. We'll pick a goddess card each and talk about what that card means to us. Then we'll use this as a basis to write beautiful poetry, and practice reading our poems aloud.

Author events - David Stuart Davies and Chris Longden



David Stuart DaviesOur author events this month cover gritty crime and a comedy set in the Holme Valley.Click on each author's name to find out more and book your tickets.
Well-known local author David Stuart Davies will introduce his latest crime thriller, "Blood Rites"Detective Inspector Paul Snow must investigate a series of murders in 1980s Yorkshire, whilst dealing with a personal drama of his own. The novel references many locations in the Huddersfield area. A glass of wine or soft drink will be provided and you'll be able to buy a copy of the book.
Chris Longden will read from her latest book "Cuckoo in the Chocolate", her funny second novel recounting the life of Rachael Russell, a proud northern feminist living in the Holme Valley.

Lunchtime Club - The Holocaust: An international story with local significance

Holocaust Learning Centre
At this month's Local History Lunchtime Club, The University of Huddersfield's Jayne Leach will give an introduction to the Holocaust Heritage and Learning Centre being set up at at the University, focusing on two survivor testimonies held in the Centre's collections. There will also be a chance to find out how you can get involved with the new Centre.


Huddersfield Literature Festival - Jeremy Vine comes to Huddersfield!

Huddersfield Literature Festival will be bringing words to life at various venues, including Huddersfield Library, throughout March. Events include talks from big names, such as Jeremy Vine and Joanne Harris, as well as workshops and a cosplay ball. You can find out more about the festival here.

Huddersfield Town Hall, the new home of the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships!

Yorkshire’s premier brass band competition. A qualifying contest for the finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain with more than sixty bands competing across five sections in the magnificent setting of the Town Hall.

The winner and runner up from each section will represent Yorkshire at the finals. The finest bands in Britain such as Black Dyke, Brighouse and Rastrick, Grimethorpe Colliery and Carlton Main Frickley compete in the Championship Section. Closely fought competition and unforgettable performances guaranteed.

Kirklees Concert Season: From Hollywood with Love

Huddersfield Town Hall - Thu 25th January 7.30pm
Joins us this January at Huddersfield Town Hall as the Orchestra of Opera North and pianist Ian Buckle kick-start the year with all-time favourite scores from the big screen.
Under the baton of Tobias Ringborg, enjoy the heart-felt poignant score from Schindler’s List, the imperial theatrics of the ‘Main Theme’ from Star Wars and the goose-bump inducing fanfare of Superman as we delight in some of the most iconic music from the movies.

The evening’s highlights also include the ethereal dreaminess of ‘Tara’s Theme’ from Steiner’s Gone with the Wind and the Overture to Korngold’s majestic Sea Hawk which tosses the melody between sections before submitting to the tender silky tones of the full symphony orchestra.
