For those of my followers who live in or near Birmingham, here are full details of the upcoming Birmingham Literature Festival:

Bham Lit Fest: 27-29 April and 4-14 October 2018 The Literature Festival for Writers “Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.” — Joyce Carol Oates It is often said that if you are a writer, you must also be a reader, and our upcoming events give you the opportunity to learn from some of the best novelists, poets and screenwriters working today. Meet up-and-coming writers and listen to a selection of their newly released works at both our Poetry Brunch and the Mantle Lane Press: Spring Showcase. Discover if 2018 is the Year of Publishing Women following Kamila Shamsie's call in 2015 and why so few women are published in translation. If you want to work on your own writing, our workshops give you the opportunity to spend quality time with a writer – ask questions, become inspired through writing activities and receive invaluable advice. Whether you're a screenwriter or want to try your hand at memoir and autobiographical writing, there are only a handful of spaces available across both workshops. Buy Tickets The Boy with the Topknot panel: from page to TV screen Sathnam Sanghera’s memoir The Boy with the Topknot was shortlisted for the 2008 Costa Biography Award. Join Sathnam, director Lynsey Miller and screenwriter Mick Ford for a unique opportunity to hear from the professionals involved in every stage of this projects writing and production.   Friday 27 April: 8pm - 9pm The STUDIO, Birmingham REP Tickets: £10 / £8 (concs) Stories in Translation: where are the women? Many of the books enjoyed by British readers are translated. This event gives you the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the translation process, a greater understanding of how books in translation are received in the UK.
