City of Literature festival begins tomorrow!
Part of Norfolk & Norwich Festival, 11 - 27 May


This Friday (11 May) marks the start of the City of Literature strand of Norfolk & Norwich Festival - a 27-event spectacular for readers, writers, thinkers and change-makers. Speakers include Viv Albertine, Jeffery Deaver, Sarah Perry, Johann Hari, Judy Murray, Ben Okri and many more.

12 Steps from Genius
Friday 25 May, 6pm, Literature tent, Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich

Based on Leslie Jamison’s personal and profound book The Recovering: Intoxication and its Aftermath, this event will centre on a performance in the form of a fictional twelve-step AA meeting with depictions of writers including Stephen King, Jean Rhys and David Foster Wallace.

Disability Writes Back!
Saturday 26 May, 11.15am, Literature tent, Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich

Professor of Disability Research Tom Shakespeare chairs a discussion on what it means to be a disabled writer and performer. 
He will be joined on stage by award-winning comic, poet and working-class amputee Jackie Hagan, and Owen Lowery, a poet and former British judo champion who suffered a life-changing spinal injury.

BBC Front Row paid a visit to Norwich last week to record a 30-minute special exploring the literary heritage of the city, its designation as England's first UNESCO City of Literature and our transition to the National Centre for Writing .

Featuring Writers' Centre Norwich CEO Chris Gribble, writers Sarah Perry and Sarah Hall, The Book Hive, Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, the University of East Anglia and students from City Academy Norwich.

Event Live lit double-bill at Norwich Arts Centre tomorrow
Friday 11 May


Two of the most exciting live literature performers in the country hit Norwich Arts Centre this Friday for a spectacular double-bill of words, music, experimentation and imagination.

Brighton Fringe-favourite Rosy Carrick presents her solo performance of Passionate Machine (standing tickets only), followed by a collision of poetry and sound from poet Hannah Silva and world-renowned Japanese sound artist Tomomi Adachi.

Noirwich Crime Writing Festival is coming...
13 - 16 September


The fifth Noirwich Crime Writing Festival - the region’s largest annual celebration of crime fiction - returns on 13 - 16 September 2018. Join the world’s biggest crime writers (and their fans) as they converge on the medieval streets of Norwich for a four-day spectacular of author panels, book signings and interactive events.

Calling all young Norfolk writers!

Do you know a young person who writes poetry, lyrics, short stories, essays or graphic novels? We're looking for the freshest, boldest words from young writers in Norfolk aged 11-18 to enter the Young Norfolk Writing Competition.

Applications open until Monday 4 June, with prizes including professional mentoring, publication on the Writers’ Centre Norwich website and bookish goodies!
